Privacy Policy

Refueler keeps the least it can to run its services. This page covers Refueler Share and the refueler.io website.

Refueler (incorporating as Refueler Ltd, England & Wales) is the data controller for the personal data described here.

Processors

Processor Role Region
Cloudflare Hosting, file storage for Share, the check that a visitor is a person, and Share sign-in emails Global
Supabase Database for Share Citizen accounts and the report register EU (Ireland)
Stripe Card payments, for paying Share Citizens only. During a card payment Stripe runs a fraud check by hCaptcha, which sees your IP address Global

Each works under its Data Processing Agreement. These three are all of them. Cloudflare and Stripe may handle data outside the UK; this is covered by the safeguards in their agreements.

Share, at share.refueler.io, encrypts your files in your browser before they leave it. The key travels in the part of the link after #, which browsers do not send to any server. We cannot open your files or read their names.

What Share keeps:

Data Why Where How long
Encrypted pieces of your files, and their stored size Deliver them to your receiver Cloudflare Until the transfer is deleted, or two days after it expires
A transfer id, when it was sent and when it expires Find the transfer and end it on time Cloudflare Until it ends; then only the id and the time it ended, for 30 days, so the link can say it has gone
Short error notes: a step name, the error's name, part of a transfer id Find and fix what breaks Cloudflare 1 day
Counts of those errors by step and error name, with no transfer id See when something fails for many people at once Cloudflare Three months, a period Cloudflare sets
A sample of requests to Share: your IP address, country, the time and the web address asked for. This covers opening a link as well as sending one. Since 21 Oct 2026, Share's own requests carry no transfer ID. Opening a link page sends the transfer ID (UUID) part of the link, never the key part after the #, and that page load may be in the sample Cloudflare's own traffic records for our account; we cannot turn them off Cloudflare At least a month. We can't check the records of a link page load, so assume indefinitely
If you report a link: a case record with the first 8 characters of the transfer ID (UUID) part, what was reported and what we did. No email address, name or IP address Act on the report and keep the record the Online Safety Act asks for Supabase (EU, Ireland) Indefinitely, as the record of what we did
If you report a link: your email address and what you wrote Reply to you Our mailbox Until the case is closed, then 6 months
Citizens only: email address, Stripe customer reference, plan and renewal date Sign-in and your plan Supabase (EU, Ireland) While you are a Citizen
Citizens only: when you signed in, to the minute, kept as one-way fingerprints Keep you signed in Supabase (EU, Ireland) Stop working after 1 hour unused, 24 hours at most; deleted within the hour

Error notes never hold file names, keys, your IP address or your browser. Sign-in records hold no IP address, device or location.

If a report shows child sexual abuse, we pass it to the National Crime Agency, as the law requires.

Two of these periods are set by Cloudflare and can't be shortened: the error counts and the sample of requests.

Others who play a part:

  • Cloudflare runs the servers, so it sees your IP address as any host does, and keeps the sample of requests listed above. A VPN hides your IP address from Cloudflare and from us. Before an upload it runs a short check that you are a person, which reads signals from your browser inside Cloudflare's own frame. It also sends Citizens' sign-in emails; each link works once, for 15 minutes.
  • Stripe takes card payments for paying Citizens only. We never see your card.
  • OpenTimestamps calendar servers receive a one-way fingerprint only if you choose a permanent record (paid plans). It reveals nothing about your file. They see your IP address as any server does.

Share itself runs no analytics, advertising or tracking script. Its visit numbers come only from Cloudflare's own traffic totals as our host. Share's front page and Plans, which live on refueler.io, count visits with this site's own counter (see This website).

The reason for each item, and its limit: What Share keeps, and why.

A few small cookies, each with one job:

Cookie What it does Lasts
__Host-rfs_session Keeps you signed in to Share as a Citizen. Set only when you sign in Ends after 1 hour unused, 24 hours at most
__cf_bm, cf_clearance Set by Cloudflare, our host, only when it needs to tell people from automated traffic __cf_bm 30 minutes; cf_clearance after a check
Stripe's own Set by Stripe, our card processor, and hCaptcha, the fraud check Stripe runs, on their own sites, not refueler.io. Only on Share's Plans page, and only after you press Continue to payment Set by them: see Stripe's privacy notice

These, and nothing for advertising or tracking across sites.

Some choices stay in your own browser and are never sent to us: Paper or Carbon, the notes that let an interrupted upload carry on, and whether you have seen a notice (cleared when you close the tab).

You can check this yourself: your browser's developer tools → Storage (or Application) → Cookies. Step by step, for each browser.

refueler.io pages, including Share's front page and Plans but never Share itself at share.refueler.io, count visits with our own counter: the page, the site you came from, your country, whether you are on a phone or a computer, the theme, how far you read an article, and whether you went on to Share. It sets no cookie, stores nothing in your browser and keeps no IP address.

These pages also load fonts from Google Fonts and Fontshare, which see your IP address as any host does. Share loads its fonts from its own server.

You can ask us to show, correct, export or delete what we hold about you, to pause its use, or to stop a use that rests on legitimate interests. Email privacy@refueler.io. We reply within 30 days, usually much sooner.

Citizens. To delete your account, email us for now; a Delete account option is coming to your account page.

Free transfers are not linked to you. To have one removed before it expires, send us the link up to the # — never the part after it, which is the key.

No decision with legal or similar effect is made about you automatically.

We would always prefer the chance to put things right first — please write to privacy@refueler.io.

We check this page against the live services on a regular schedule. The date at the top says when it last changed.

Material changes — new kinds of data, new processors, new legal bases, longer retention — are announced on the Share status page before they take effect. Version history is kept in a private Git repository.
