Share runs no analytics and no session recording. When an upload or download goes wrong in your browser, this page helps you check what the messages on the page mean, and what to send me if you'd like help. You decide what to share.
Check these first
Most failures come from one of these.
- Is Share having a problem? Look at the Status page. If there's a notice, I'm working on the fix.
- Content blockers. Share needs three addresses a blocker might stop: Cloudflare's "are you a person" check (
challenges.cloudflare.com), Share's server (api.share.refueler.io) and Cloudflare's storage (r2.cloudflarestorage.com). Allow them for this site, or try once with the blocker off. - A VPN. Some VPN exits make Cloudflare's check harder, or stop it finishing. Try another city or country location.
- The tab went to sleep. Transfers run in your browser, so the tab has to stay open and the computer awake. If a laptop lid closed or a phone locked during an upload, go back to Share: it offers to carry on, and asks you to choose the same file again. A download starts from the beginning, so open the link again.
- Private windows. Some private modes limit what a page may keep, which stops an upload carrying on. A normal window is best for big files.
- Space and memory. A download needs room for the whole file on the drive you save to. As of October 2026, a very large download in Safari or Firefox also needs a lot of free memory; a fix is being built. On a phone, keep downloads small.
- Another browser. If it fails in one browser, try another. That tells me whether the problem is the browser or the transfer, which halves the search.
What the page says, and what to do
| The page says | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| This link isn’t complete. | Part of the link was lost when it was copied or sent. | Ask the sender to send it again, in full. |
| This file is no longer available. | The link is closed. Either the sender's time limit ran out, or we took the link down after a report. The page says which. | If the time ran out, ask the sender for a new link. If we took it down, write to report@refueler.io and give the reference the page shows. |
| The security check couldn’t load. | A blocker or VPN stopped Cloudflare's check. | Allow challenges.cloudflare.com, or try once without the blocker or VPN. |
| The file couldn’t be decrypted. | The key in the link doesn't fit the file, usually because the link was changed on the way. Nothing was saved. | Ask the sender to send it again. |
| Refueler couldn’t be reached. | Your connection dropped, or something between you and Share blocked it. | Check your connection, then open the link again. |
| Refueler couldn’t be reached after several tries. | As above, for longer. Nothing was saved. | Check your connection, then open the link again. |
| Refueler couldn’t open this transfer just now. | Share's side had a problem. | Open the link again in a minute. If it keeps happening, check the Status page. |
| Refueler’s answer was incomplete. | Share's reply was cut short. | Open the link again. If it keeps happening, check the Status page. |
| Refueler didn’t accept this download. | The download's permission ran out or was refused. | Open the link again to start over. |
| The file couldn’t be saved there. | The browser couldn't write to the place you chose. | Open the link again and choose another place. |
| Something went wrong in this browser. | Something unexpected, inside the browser. | Open the link again. If it keeps happening, try another browser. |
| Refueler couldn’t check the password. | The password check didn't finish. | Try again. |
"Open the link again" means the link from your message or email. Reloading the page won't do it: once a link opens, Share clears it from the address bar, so the key doesn't linger there.
On a phone
| Phone and browser | What to try first |
|---|---|
| Safari on iPhone | Keep the screen on until it finishes. Content blockers live in Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions. |
| Chrome on Android | Keep the screen on. Try once outside Data Saver or any VPN app. |
| Firefox on Android | Check add-ons such as uBlock Origin, and allow the three addresses above. |
| Vanadium on GrapheneOS | Keep the screen on. If the security check doesn't finish, try once without the VPN. |
On a phone the browser's error log is hard to reach. A screenshot of the page is all I need.
If it still fails
What to write down
- what the page said, word for word (a screenshot is ideal)
- your browser and device, for example "Safari 26 on a MacBook" or "Vanadium on a Pixel 9a"
- roughly how big the file was
- roughly when it happened
- what you'd already tried from the list above
Your reference
If I need to find the transfer, eight characters are enough. They're the first eight after uuid= in the link:
share.refueler.io/?uuid=1a2b3c4dyour reference-5e6f-4a7b-8c9d-0e1f2a3b4c5d#k4Rw9Tq2Lm7Xv0Bc5Nz8Hj3Yp6Ds1Fgthe key, never send this
Everything after the # is the key to the file. Please don't send me the whole link, and never the password.
The browser console (optional, on a computer)
Your browser keeps a log of errors the page never shows.
| Browser | How to open the console |
|---|---|
| Safari | Settings → Advanced → tick Show features for web developers, then Develop → Show JavaScript Console |
| Chrome, Edge, Brave | ⌥ ⌘ J on a Mac, Ctrl Shift J on Windows or Linux |
| Firefox | ⌥ ⌘ K on a Mac, Ctrl Shift K on Windows or Linux |
Repeat the step that failed, then copy the lines shown in red. Before you send them, look for a # followed by a long run of letters and numbers, and delete it.
